Frangipani Cooler: A Refreshing Hibiscus Mocktail

Frangipani Cooler: A Refreshing Hibiscus Mocktail

Imagine a drink that doesn't just quench your thirst but revitalizes your senses, tantalizes your taste buds, and brings a bouquet of health benefits to the table. That's exactly what this Frangipani Cooler mocktail promises—a balance of flavors that feels like a refreshing embrace. This isn't your average mocktail; it's a vibrant blend of floral notes, tangy citrus, and a subtle sweetness, all topped off with a fizzy probiotic flourish that dances on your palate.

I asked my neighbourhood on Instagram to help me choose a name for this mocktail. It was between Rosy Hibiscus Fizz and Frangipani Cooler—well we know who took the cake!

The inspiration behind the name comes from the fact that I love saying the word "frangipani"...kidding...a little. The Frangipani tree, also known as plumeria, can be found along the coastal areas of the islands of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. It produces flamboyant flowers that come in shades of pink, yellow and white bathed in a floral-sweet fragrance. I grew up adorning my kinky coils with their delicate petals and even sucking the sweet nectar from their stems.

THE HEALTHFUL HIBISCUS MEETS THE REGAL ROSE: FLAVOR PROFILE

As a Chef and Hormone health coach, I meticulously chose ingredients that do more than just taste good.

  • Dried hibiscus leaves, known for their deep crimson allure, bring a tart richness and a powerhouse of antioxidants to the mix. These antioxidants are crucial for fighting off free radicals, reducing oxidative stress, lower blood pressure and promoting overall health.
  • The delicate, fragrant rose petals add an elegant floral hint but their benefits extend well beyond their fragrance. Rich in vitamin C, rose petals can be a gentle immune booster, perfect for keeping those seasonal sniffles at bay. They've also been traditionally used to aid digestion and relieve digestive discomfort, making this mocktail a great after-meal treat. Roses have a calming effect on the mind and body, potentially easing stress and promoting a sense of well-being.

THE PROBIOTIC TWIST

When you think of mocktails, you might imagine a delicious, non-alcoholic drink that's all about flavor and presentation. But what if your mocktail could offer more? Enter probiotic drinks!

Why Probiotics?

Probiotics are live bacteria and yeasts that are good for you, especially your digestive system. We usually think of bacteria as something that causes diseases, but your body is full of bacteria, both good and bad. Probiotics are often called "good" or "helpful" bacteria because they help keep your gut healthy.

Incorporating a sparkling probiotic drink into this mocktail not only adds a delightful fizz but also supports digestive health, boosts immunity, and can even improve mental health through the gut-brain axis. This axis is the biochemical signaling that takes place between the gastrointestinal tract and the central nervous system.

Choosing the Right Probiotic Drink

There's a variety of sparkling probiotic drinks available, ranging from kombucha to probiotic-infused mineral waters. When selecting one for this mocktail, consider the flavor profile. You'll want something that complements the tartness of the drink that you're making so that it doesn't overpower the main flavors. A lightly flavored or unflavored probiotic sparkling water or a mild kombucha works wonders.

Now let's dive into the recipe for this guilt-free, indulgent mocktail.
